Planning and Prepayment of Funerals

We plan for nearly every financial eventuality we may face in life; we invest for our retirement and have health insurance and house and contents insurance. Yet when it comes to funerals, many of us don't like to think about them, let alone plan in advance.

Thinking about your own funeral is difficult for some people but, as the funeral director will tell you, it is not unusual for the grieving family to be unaware of the deceased's funeral wishes. Expressing them in advance will help your family to carry out your wishes.

It's never an easy thing to do, but organising a funeral can be far less painful if you know what to expect and what choices you'll have to make.

The FDANZ Prepaid Funeral Trust helps cover the cost of your funeral expenses in advance and assists in alleviating the financial burden often felt by loved ones at a distressing time. It takes the second-guessing of your wishes and the financial responsibility away from your loved ones and supports them at a most difficult time.

Today more and more people are changing the way they think and find that it makes a lot of sense to prearrange and prepay their funeral. They would prefer that family and friends spent time reflecting on the good times and grieving rather than worrying about the arrangement details and financial matters.

J Fraser & Sons Ltd is a member of the Funeral Directors' Association of New Zealand (FDANZ) who own the FDANZ Prepaid Funeral Trust. FDANZ have engaged Cosignia Ltd and Westpac New Zealand Ltd as fund administrator and fund manager respectively.

All prepaid funeral funds received by J Fraser and Sons Ltd are forwarded directly to the fund administrator, and the funds are managed independently of the nominated funeral director.
