DOBSON, David Lewis (Lewis)

Lewis passed peacefully in his sleep, at his beloved home in Te Anau on Monday 29th April 2024. Dearly devoted to and loved husband of the late Patricia Mary (Pat). Adored and adoring father and father-in-law of the late Terri-Belinda Dobson and Lynley and Dallas Gray. A respected and much-loved member of the Dobson, O’Connor and Gray families both in New Zealand and overseas. Son of the late Stan and the late May Dobson (ex Fairlie, Levels, Timaru), brother of the late Lynley and late Don Welton (USA) and their extended family in America who loved him dearly.

A very good friend to many. Best buddy and hugely missed by his constant companion Tala.

‘Rest easy with the Great Spirit’

Condolences to Lynley, Dallas and your family. Have heard lots of lovely stories from you about your dad in the past few weeks. Sorry for your loss. Rest in Peace Mr Dobson. Thinking of you. From Yvonne, Colin and the team at Mt Meru and Wilson Trading.

It won't be the same walking past your house anymore with the dogs. I always waved and you waved back. If I had the time I would pop in for a cuppa, and we had some great yarns.
We will miss you calling into work with chocolate bars for my baking. I will think of you everytime I make my chocolate biscuits.
Fly high with your Red Indian Spirits Lewis and hopefully you have a wolf there too. All my love always. X

Lewis ‘Firpo’ Dobson
left an indelible impression on countless people throughout his years.

His unrelenting work ethic, combined with his pro-athlete like approach to diabetes defiance, literally enhanced landscapes on his beloved ‘Tan Bar’, the banks of the Waiau River and beyond.

He was a passionate prankster, jokester, avid planter of NZ native flora, indigenous american advocate and overall marvelous human, who was rarely afraid to express his love for others.

A truly great spirit, father figure and inspiration, who is finally at rest with his Great Spirit.

Naturally our hearts go out to his immediate family and his friends.

My family and I will miss him terribly.

Mike Dobson, Corvallis, OR

I had the pleasure of meeting you and sharing a few good long phone calls. It was always great to hear the stories about my Father (John Le Comte) and his twin Lew who spent many times with you in the past. They enjoyed their times with you. Thank you.
Your phone conservations were always so positive and upbeat and I always felt so inspired by them. Nothing seemed impossible!

My sincere condolences to Lynley and family and the beautiful Tala.
